As many of you know, Stepping Stones is evolving and on its way to becoming a useful tool for the Republican Party to use to dispel the notion Republicans don’t care about the Hispanic or minority communities.
It’s up to us to show them we not only care, but we’re doing things to advance education within the community.
I just wanted to share this video with you, and introduce you to Dr. Walter Bradley, who created Success 4 Students, a proven program designed to help students learn how to succeed in college.
We will be using portions of his existing program and modifying it slightly to incorporate it with the “mentor” side of GOPisForMe.
Our goal is to target 8th graders, and set them on the right path by the time they start high school.
Dr. Bradley’s program adds the much needed tracking capabilities and assessment tools needed to truly assist the students.
We need to be building a base of mentors. Mentors will be able to help up to 5 students at a time, and will need to commit to a 12 week period per student. So, depending on how many students you want to help, you’ll need to have the base of mentors to support them.
Data collected from the student’s responses to email surveys, will be sent to mentors, who will be able to pinpoint where each student needs help. For example, they may be falling behind in goal setting or scheduling. As a mentor, you would be able to advise the student on how to improve, leading them down the path to success.
I am excited about the future, and our potential impact. We are currently revising the program and hope to have materials by the end of November to present at the SREC Auxiliary Committee meeting.
