Texas Democrat’s Promesa Project: Over-Promising, and Under-Delivering?

Published on May 11, 2012 by

I wrote this reply on a “Promesa Project” Blog, titled “Obama Organizing Fellowship in Ohio.” It is a write-up on the Fellowships offered to Promesa Project organizers. Adrienne Bell, a Brazoria County resident, is a Delegate to the Texas Democratic Convention, and has been selected to go to Ohio to develop the Promesa Project there, and initiate get-out-the-vote projects for the Democrat Party. She is a solid Obama supporter, and had this to say about his Presidency, “I believe history will reveal President Obama as one of the best Presidents in the history of the United States.”

I’ve been following the Promesa Project, since it began a few years ago. Google “alerts” are awesome, and I’ve read different press releases, etc. I’m a Hispanic Republican in Texas, and feel that the Hispanic community has been misled by this President. Why is it that deportations have increased in America under President Obama? If he was “really” concerned with immigration, and was a man of integrity, he would have passed legislation in his first year, like he said.

DREAMs and Promises…can’t we develop something real? Something tangible, that solves the problem, rather than only helping young students? What message does it send to all the other undocumented residents? That they’re not worth the effort?

A Bipartisan approach will be necessary to advance real solutions. I hope there are enough in the Democrat Party to agree that it takes us all, working together to fix things.

Regarding the “Promise” to vote Democrat…why does the Democrat Party feel they need to get commitments to vote Democrat? Are they concerned that the Republican message might resonate?

I am excited that we live in a FREE country, and have the right to assemble and let our voice be heard. Unfortunately, the Conservative Hispanic voice has been hushed by the Democrat Party. That’s why, in my opinion, those Conservative Hispanics, who believe in traditional marriage, and that the government should stay out of the business of the Catholic church, will begin the process of testing the Republican waters.

And I have to say, the water’s fine.

One final thing. It does say something, that the Democrat Party is going to college campuses and relying on DREAM Act promotion, to build their base. Targeting impressionable, sometimes desperate undocumented students to do the “heavy lifting.” Is that what the Democrat Party is all about? Over-Promising, and under-delivering?

Incumbent Democrat Royce West, Called Out for Misleading the Black Community

Published on May 10, 2012 by

For 20 years, incumbent Democrat Royce West, has represented Texas Senate District 23. The district includes parts of Dallas Oak Cliff, Lancaster, Red Oak, De Soto and much of the southern part of the Dallas metro-plex region. “Royce West has been leading the community down the wrong path,” stated Lawson in an interview with GOPisForMe.

According to Lawson, under the leadership of Royce West, the Black community in his district has deteriorated. Those who Royce West claims to fight for, are the ones looking for jobs right now. They’re the ones who are on welfare sliding further and further behind, while everyone else is moving forward.

It’s these people that John Lawson thinks about, and it is because of them, he has decided to run against Royce West and restore the community. Using logic and reason, combined with faith and vast knowledge of the Bible, Lawson feels that his approach would be one that followed the values and principles of righteousness. Essentially, it seems to be a battle between good principles and evil ones with bad intentions.

“If you see a group of people and they’re about to go off a cliff it’s your duty to warn them and tell them,” stated Lawson, speaking of the responsibility of our elected officials to warn the community of the impending dangers. “Royce West is just using the youth of the community to advance his political agenda,” Lawson added, regarding Senator West’s tactics used to start marches for Trayvon Martin. In our interview, Lawson went into detail and explained the many issues facing the community within Senate District 23, exclaiming that the community is trapped under the direction of Royce West.

Are the people in Texas Senate District 23 even concerned with politics right now? Do they know who John Lawson is? Do they care? Are they satisfied with Royce West? Or are they just doing what they’ve been conditioned to do? Voting for the candidate with a (D) in front of their name because that’s what their parents did.

What does John Lawson bring to the table that Royce West doesn’t? To me, it seems like the major difference is character. He brings honesty, integrity and a strong belief in God, one that would prohibit him from voting for any legislation that advanced abortion. Lawson said that “abortion in the black community is like a racial genocide, and Democrat officials are just helping to destroy the black community.” He believes that the black community has been deceived, and is determined to unveil the lies and restore truth.

If you live in Texas Senate District 23, take a look around. What do you see? Does it seem better now than it did 20 years ago when Royce West 1st took office? Or does it seem like everything’s gone downhill?

As you read this blog, the Obama administration is attacking your religious freedom. They think they can tell you what to do with your own health plan. They want to open the floodgates for illegal immigrants with the DREAM Act, and they see a future of a citizenry dependent on the government.

Is that what you see? Is that what you want? If you still believe there’s a chance for this country to get back on track, to make a better place to raise your children, with higher wages and quality jobs, then I suggest you vote for John Lawson on May 14, 2012. If you miss that date you can vote on May 29th. But whatever happens, don’t be complaining about another term for Royce West, if you didn’t vote. They think you can’t vote… they think you won’t vote. Prove them wrong! Vote for a new beginning. Vote for John Lawson.

Interviewed by NPR / KWBU’s, Becky Fogel on DREAM Act

Published on May 6, 2012 by

I was interviewed by KWBU‘s  Becky Fogel,  a Journalist for Baylor University’s radio station 103.3 FM, powered by NPR.  She wanted to know what I thought about the DREAM Act, and in particular, about the cases in Waco regarding two young illegal immigrants, soon-to-be-deported.  It was a great opportunity to share our views, and have a dialogue with a larger audience.

We met at our headquarters in Clifton, and I showed her our new “blue screen” and recording set-up.    I introduced her to Janet Jackson, SREC for Senate District 22, and Co-Founder / Trainer of GOPisForMe, who was preparing for the upcoming State Convention.
We moved to our audio recording studio and sat down at a table near a window for our interview.   We had some small talk, and I found out she’s from Chicago, is passionate about the Hispanic culture, and deeply concerned with the issue of illegal immigration. She’s inspired by issues, and loves what she does.  After a few minutes, we began our interview.

My interview is titled “Documentation vs Citizenship,”  but prior to interviewing me, Becky interviewed Waco attorney and immigration activist, Susan I. Nelson. Susan is deeply engaged in Deportation issues like this, and her recording is listed first. Let me know what you think…

CONSERVATIVE GROUP ENDORSES TIJERINA

FOR 13th COURT OF APPEALS

Jaime Tijerina Receives Nod in Republican Primary May 29th

jaime_tijerina_hispanic_Republican_Texas_13th_Court_of_Appeals_Judge_JusticeIn a statement released today Dr. John Coppedge said:  “It is an easy call to endorse Colonel Tijerina in this important Republican Primary race.  He is clearly well qualified and his ongoing record of public service speaks volumes about his commitment to fairness.  He has stated that the reason he is running is because, in his view, this court often does not follow well established law in rendering its opinions.  Even though he cannot actively campaign for the Primary  (he is currently on active duty, serving a US Army reserve commitment in Afganistan) the voters in South Texas are encouraged to nominate him for this seat”.

“His opponent is becoming somewhat of a perennial candidate, this being his third attempt to be elected to this court.  He was sanctioned and fined for filing a frivolous lawsuit and has other political baggage that would make it hard for him to win a general election contest”, Coppedge added.

The 13th Court of Appeals is one of  fourteen  intermediate appellate courts in Texas and serves the following counties: Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Cameron, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Hidalgo, Jackson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Live Oak, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, Wharton and Willacy.

It has been one of the most frequently reversed of the appellate courts, both by the Texas Supreme Court in civil cases and the Court of Criminal Appeals in criminal cases.

The Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee was formed in the late 1980s to evaluate, endorse and support judges and candidates for civil courts who believe in the concept of judicial restraint.  In addition we support judges and judicial candidates for criminal courts who recognize and protect not only the rights of criminal defendants but of the victims of crime as well.  We have, over the years supported over 100 candidates for various courts, including for the Texas Supreme Court, The Court of Criminal Appeals, most of the 14 Courts of Appeal in Texas, District Courts and County Courts at Law.

Interviews with Candidates for McLennan County Constable

Published on May 3, 2012 by

It all comes down to exposure, and many elections are won and lost by a handful of votes. For this reason we wanted to highlight a down ballot race, and chose the McLennan County constable’s race to highlight. When I first spoke to the two candidates, Walt Strickland and M.R. “Bubba” Colyer,  I knew it would be an interesting race.

This has many similarities to the McLennan County Sheriff’s race, because it seems to come down to the same to distinguishing factors.… Law man versus administrator. We hope that these videos help you in your decision. We enjoyed meeting both candidates and wish them luck. I’m happy to say that I would feel comfortable with either at the helm.
