Chairman’s Update: May 2011 / SREC Report

Also at this meeting, the SREC voted to approve GOPisForMe as an official RPT auxiliary. GOPisForMe has already been partnering with RPT in events during the past few months going back into the 2010 election cycle and is committed to “building the Republican Party through Hispanic inclusion.”

Yesterday, we presented GOPisForMe to the Auxiliary Committee of the RPT. The State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) Quarterly Meeting was taking place, and GOPisForMe was on the agenda for a vote to accept us as an Auxiliary of the Republican Party of Texas.

Illegals Testify at State Capitol, Education Bill Turns Into Immigration Testimony

I sat in disbelief as I watched someone, not a citizen of Texas or the United States, sit there in our Texas Capitol and suggest we are discriminating against her and her fellow illegal college students right after admitting she has lived here for over a decade illegally.

Birdwell Draws Line in Sand, Hispanic Republicans Support Bill

It is absurd to think about someone who is NOT a citizen as having equal rights as a U.S. citizens. If Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., D-Brownsville, used this Bible verse to underscore his displeasure at the proposal “You shall have the same law for the stranger, and for one from your own country,” then he should also agree that the United States should secure its borders as Mexico has. He would also agree that Mexico’s laws on immigration are immoral since they are not tolerant of outsiders.

The interview we conducted was stripped of rhetoric and to the point. When we were done, Williams jokingly said to his assistant, “He hit me hard on border security and immigration.” I laughed and said, “hey…we’re just having a conversation.”
