“No Show” Joe

When a candidate avoids the public and will not answer questions from the people, they do not deserve the honor of serving the people.  Several weeks ago, we decided to partner with Newstalk 1230 to bring McLennan County a much needed primary debate between three highly anticipated races, including Texas House of Representatives District 56, McLennan County Sheriff and the Republican Party County Chairman.

Immediately, we heard positive response from Parnell McNamara and Randy Plemons, Candidates for McLennan County Sheriff.  Within a day or two, we had confirmation from Doc Anderson, Incumbent, District 56 and shortly after, his challenger, Chris DeCluitt agreed to debate.

Ralph Patterson, Candidate for Republican Chairman of McLennan County also agree to participate, leaving one last hold-out… current County Chairman, Joe B. Hinton.  Hinton, who has been using the McLennan County Republican Club to grandstand and push his message unopposed, has yet to respond.  He was notified in the same email that went out to all candidates.

Why does he not want to debate Ralph Patterson?  What is he afraid of?  Maybe he thinks he has this in the bag, and just doesn’t want to make a critical mistake?  Or maybe he realizes he can’t face Ralph Patterson.  Squaring off with Patterson in a one-on-one would create the environment where Hinton would have to answer for his actions, which he obviously feels he does not need to subject himself to.

Like the Democrat, Liberal who’s afraid to attend a Town Hall meeting, and possibly face the music of his actions, Hinton is in hiding.  He was invited to speak at the McLennan County Republican Women’s Club meeting last month and failed to appear.  But, when you never attend their meetings in the first place, it’s tough to show your face and ask for support.

Hinton is a victim of his own actions.  In many circles, even the “establishment” realizes his time is coming to an end.  I’ve been told by some close to him, that they realize he is not living up to the job as Chairman, and it is time for new leadership.  His tight reign is slipping, and based on the reactions of many in the McLennan Party, so is his support.

I respect those who have agreed to participate in this debate.  They understand the importance of connecting with the people, and understand the value of a debate.  But, if you’re the weaker candidate, facing off with your stronger opponent is just a nightmare waiting to happen.  So what do most people in that situation do?  Nothing.  They hide behind anything and anyone they can, making excuses and dancing around long enough to get to the election.  Maybe…just maybe, they’ve fooled enough people to win an election.

But those days are over.  Now, the voters are aware, and any candidate who isn’t willing to stand firm in front of the people are perceived as cowards.  If they don’t have the courage to speak directly to the people and answer tough questions, sharing their vision, then we don’t want ‘em.

I guess it’s not too late, but I won’t hold my breath to hear from Joe B. Hinton, my County Chairman who does not speak to me or anyone of us associated with GOPisForMe or the Hispanic Republican Club of the County he Chairs.  It’s embarrassing, to be quite frank.  I have had the pleasure of working with cooperative County Chairmen, and I do know how good it can be…with the right person at the helm.  What we have in McLennan County is a joke…and it is time for new leadership.  Perhaps the Republican voters in McLennan County feel the same?  We’ll soon find out.

Newt Gingrich Immigration Plan : Step 6. Create a path to earned legality

This is directly from Newt Gingrich’s Campaign website.

6. Create a path to earned legality for some of the millions of people who are here outside the law.

There are currently anywhere from 8 to 12 million people living in the United States who entered illegally.

These people range from day laborers who arrived recently, to grandparents who have been paying taxes, supporting their families and obeying the law for decades.

We need a system that enforces the rule of law, ensures that those who broke the law pay a stiff penalty, but also acknowledges that it is neither optimal nor feasible nor humane to deport every single illegal immigrant.

We need a path to legality, but not citizenship, for some of these individuals who have deep ties to America, including family, church and community ties. We also need a path to swift but dignified repatriation for those who are transient and have no roots in America.

We need a process that can distinguish at the human level.

Congress must charge the Department of Justice to establish a “citizens’ review” process for those here outside the law. It would establish committees to process these cases in individual communities and determine who will continue on this path to legality, and who will be sent home. Congress must define understandable, clear, objective legal standards that will be applied equally during this process. While this process is ongoing, those here outside the law will be granted Temporary Legal Status for a certain, limited period of time until all have had the opportunity to apply and appear in front of committees.

Applicants must first pass a criminal background check, and then the local committees will assess applications based on family and community ties, and ability to support oneself via employment without the assistance of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other entitlement programs.

The government will rigorously enforce a requirement that all individuals seeking this path to legality must be able to prove that they can independently pay for private health insurance. If an individual cannot prove this, they will lose the ability to stay in the United States.

Furthermore, proficiency in English within a certain number of years, similar to the requirement for naturalization, will be required for anyone who seeks continued legal status in the United States.

Once an applicant has been granted the right to obtain legal status, he or she will have to pay a penalty of at least $5,000.

Moving forward, those who receive this status will have to prove on a regular basis that they can support themselves without entitlement programs and pay for health insurance or else risk the ability to stay in the United States.

Navarro County Republican Outreach Efforts in Full Swing

It was a cold, rainy day in Corsicana, TX.  Republican Candidates from Navarro County gathered at the I.O.O.F. Event Center to meet local voters and speak to the crowd about their candidacy.  The event, sponsored by the newly formed Hispanic Republican Club of Navarro County, featured a prayer for guidance from Raul Jimenez, an incredible Hispanic Outreach recap from Chairman, Frank Steed and presentation from Duke Machado, Director- GOPisForMe.  Fourteen candidates then took the stage, one at a time, and gave their best three-minute “pitch” for why they deserve the vote of the people in Navarro County.  From  Sheriff’s Candidates to County Commissioners, we heard many great ideas and met several wonderful patriots.  The videos below include one of Chairman, Frank Steed and one of Duke Machado.  Steed gives a detailed recap of the process required and effort it took for the Hispanic movement to take hold.

Machado spoke about the Hispanic Republican movement and had an incredible opportunity to connect with the many candidates in attendance.  The message is growing in Navarro County, thanks to the leadership of passionate Republicans like Ralph Gonzalez, Raul and Monica Jimenez, Johnny Gonzales and their growing team in Navarro.  We will post Candidate’s speeches soon.

Interview with Rebecca Cervera, Republican Activist in Rio Grande Valley

Funny how things work.  On November 3rd, 2010, I met a man named Robert Birch.  We were at the Bill Flores Victory party in College Station…I was Live Streaming and he was celebrating a hard fought victory, having spent hours block walking and volunteering for Bill’s campaign.  Robert was a  college student and independent thinker, who now lives in South Korea as a teacher.

At that event, he asked if I’d be interested in working on a writing project called the Dogcatcher Project, a “drafting” blog founded by Adam Brickley, who created the Draft Palin for VP blogging site credited with creating much of the buzz about the unknown Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.  Brickley wanted to make an impact in several races across the country by repeating what he did on a larger scale, to include multiple candidates in several races.  In short, he wanted to round-up the “dogs.”

We had a great time working on this project, and attempted to draft Conservative candidates to replace heavily favored Democrats in deeply rooted districts.  From New York’s Amity Shlaes, to Michigan’s Hisham Kabbani, we sought out people who were not necessarily political, but rather contained the characteristics and qualities we felt would translate into great candidates.  We wrote about them, trying to peak the interest of the media, as well as interest from the “draftee.”

I was responsible for two candidates.  One in Texas and one in Michigan.  In Texas, I looked to the border for someone who could, with support from the State Party, National Party and the people of their district, unseat the heavily entrenched Democrat, Ruben Hinojosa.   In my research, one name kept appearing…Rebecca Cervera, a resident of McAllen, a border town in Hidalgo county.  She’s a businesswoman and owns a U.S. Customs Import/Export company situated on one of the entry points in Hidalgo county.  I learned she had run for a State House seat against Veronica Gonzales, an established Democrat well protected and supported by the Democratic machine in South Texas.  Cervera campaigned with little financial support and was attacked by many in the media, the public and the “political system” in Hidalgo county.

In a district that is nearly 80% Democratic, Rebecca’s message obviously resonated across party lines.  Despite amazing opposition, she drew 43% of the vote, proving that South Texas is open for any candidate who is willing to get in the trenches and provide real solutions.  It showed that a sound Conservative approach will get people to vote for you, even if they’re traditional Democrats.  It should have sent shock waves through the state as an indicator of possibility for the Republican Party.

But that message hasn’t gone out…instead, it quietly receded and Texas House District 41 is now occupied by (D) Veronica Gonzales.

The people of Hidalgo county are conservative.  Most are Catholic and fiercely oppose the attacks of the Obama Administration on the Church.  But, they only hear one side of the story.  The Conservative voice is drowned out and shut down with efficiency.

Several months later, Rebecca and I began communicating through facebook.  I realized she was a needle in a haystack, and kept our conversations going…learning more about the challenges and obstacles we face in the Rio Grande Valley.  Once we built a strong friendship, I asked if we could interview her and have her show us around the region.  She agreed.

As I wrote in a previous blog, “Spotlight : Texas Rio Grande Valley, Today’s New Ground Zero,” we made our trip to the border on January 14th-15th, 2012.  Our visit included a full background Q&A along with an interview on her positions and values regarding issues of the day.  This video is part 1 of 2, and is the beginning of our new series of impacting productions that position the Republican Party and Conservatism as the right choice.

Dr. Nika Davis, Candidate for Waco I.S.D. At-Large Trustee

Last night, we heard from Dr. Nika Davis, Pastor  at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Waco and accomplished Educator.  He spoke to us about his experiences and unique qualities that give him an advantage over his opponent, Pat Atkins, a long term Trustee.  Davis, if elected, will be the only teacher on the school board.

From his Facebook page, “I have spent twelve years working in the education field. As a teacher, I received the honor of Teacher of the Year in Lufkin High School. I have served on many committees including the Faculty Community Council with the superintendent of Lufkin ISD. As a professor at Tarrant County College, I understand the importance of college readiness and would be an asset in the district’s efforts to prepare more students for post-secondary study.”

Dr. Davis has a vision he calls “P3,” which defines his entire approach to education.  He discussed his thoughts on what it would take to change the “P” erception many people have of the WISD, and talked about the need to fill the gaps in our system.  A district with 51% Hispanic, 32% Black and 12% Anglo is one that requires a heavy focus on minorities and under performing schools.  Waco does not rank well in the state…somewhere below the 50 percentile.

Despite the overwhelming challenge, Dr. Davis feels he is the man for the job, and definitely expresses a deep conviction for ensuring the young people of Waco have a prosperous future.  He talked about the need to provide an educated work force, to capitalize on new technology jobs and heavily suggested WISD increase its capacity to partner with local organizations and community groups willing to assist.  It sounds like Waco could benefit from the contributions of Dr. Nika Davis…if he gets elected.  He needs your help and most importantly, your vote.

Aggies for Palestine, Anti-Semitic rhetoric on Texas A&M Campus?

This letter came to me today from a fellow GOPisForMe member and student at Texas A&M University.  It spells out the intentions and agenda of the group, Aggies for Palestine, and provides documented evidence of their anti-Semitic rhetoric.  Please help by passing this information along to anyone who can help end this sort of tactic on our State supported college campuses.

“Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hope this e-mail finds all of you doing well. I am writing to you today to discuss activities on Texas A&M campus both which are disturbing and alarming. Moreover, I am writing to ask for your help in the most professional manner possible. The activity to which I am specifically referring to is the formation of the Aggies for Palestine on Campus. When I first heard about this group over the 2011-2012 Christmas break, I was initially curious as I believed this group would merely advocate a peaceful and responsible two state solution to the conflicts surrounding the State of Israel. However, the more research I conducted concerning this organization, the more disturbed I became. Attached in the documents you will find evidence of the disturbing nature of the recently formed student group, Aggies for Palestine.

In the attachment Constitution, you will find the group’s stated purpose, vision, and rules of procedure. You will notice I have highlighted the vision of this group as this is the area I would like to pay particular attention to. The vision is contained in both the attachment Constitution as well as the attachment Purpose. The multi-colored accusations against Israel are the issues specifically to which I would like to bring to your attention. Most alarming are the accusations that Israel is an apartheid state, the notation that Palestinians are refugees, and the advocating for a right of return.

As you may well know, the accusation that Israel is an apartheid state comes from the wall which is currently being built along the long-established borders between the West Bank and the State of Israel. The purpose of this wall is to protect the State of Israel and to prevent future suicide bombings in civilian areas. Such proof of this issue is that since the first contiguous segment was constructed in 2006, terrorist attacks which numbered at 73, killing a total of 293 and injuring over 1,900 others has been reduced to 12 attacks, killing only 64 and wounding 445. (Information obtained from The Anti-Terrorist Fence by Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

The next item which lambasts the state of Israel is the notion that Palestinians are refugees. This accusation arises from the belief that upon the declaration of Israel as a sovereign nation on 14 May 1948, the State of Israel unreasonably and forcibly drove the non-Jewish inhabitants out of the newly formed State. I assure you nothing could be further from the truth. We know, as reflected in the official Israeli position the:

…the Arabs in Palestine were asked to stay and live as citizens in the Jewish state. Instead, they chose to leave, either because they were unwilling to live with the Jews, or because they expected an Arab military victory which would annihilate the Zionists. They thought they could leave temporarily and return at their leisure. Later, an additional claim was put forth, namely that the Palestinians were ordered to leave [by their imams], with radio broadcasts instructing them to quit their homes.

Furthermore, any claim which argues that Palestinian villages were forced to excavate by Israeli soldiers is either disingenuous or dishonest in its entirety. For starters, Israeli soldiers did forcibly remove people from Palestinian villages. But these evacuation orders were given in May 1948, weeks after the initial hostilities between Arab nations and Israel had begun. Secondly, as discovered by Benny Morris, in The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited, the Arab High Committee on March 8, 1948 was ordered by the Arab National Committee to “forcibly evacuate women, children, and the elderly to a faraway area from the dangers. Any opposition to this order is an obstacle to the holy war and will hamper the operations of the fighters in these districts”. This unwillingness to live under Jewish authority was noted in its contribution to the 1948 Palestinian exodus by George Crews McGhee in On the frontline in the Cold War: an ambassador reports (1997) as well as known historian Joseph Schechtman and Professor at King’s College London, Efraim Karsh.

The last item from the Constitutuion and Purpose which raises immediate concern is the advocating for the right of return. The right of return is the internationally recognized right of people to return to their country of origin. While on the onset, this idea has many merits, in the application to the State of Israel, the results are catastrophic. If the State of Israel were forced to grant the demands contained in the Palestinian right of return, which includes the right to return to an exact property location, it would, in so doing, forcibly evict Jews from their homes so that other people can then inhabit them.

Having finished discussing the immediate issues contained in the Constitution, I would also ask that you regard the document Facebook Photos. In this document you will find several photos taken from the Aggies for Palestine’s Facebook page. The two photos I would like to point your attention to are the two center photos. You will notice in both of these photos the Keffiyeh is present. As has been documented by Caroline Glick from the Jerusalem Post, Rhonda Koenig from the Independent in Britain, Kim Kibum from the New York Times, and authors Frank B. Tipton and Cas Muddle, this garment is a symbol of solidarity with Palestine. In particular, it is a symbol of solidarity with the Fatah, a Palestinian political party who calls for the full liberation of Palestine and all Palestinian lands with Jerusalem as its capital. Furthermore, in 2007, Fatah, as the majority party in the Palestinian National Authority, agreed to work in coordination with Hamas who won elections in the Gaza Strip in 2005. Clarification on the meaning of “all Palestinian lands” can be found on the Keffiyeh (in the center-right photo, look at the bottom left. Specifically the end of the Keffiyeh.) Further clarification can be found in the top center photo as well as the bottom center photo, both which have the entire state of Israel in the colors of red, green, and black (the colors associated with Palestinian nationalism).

There are many issues and subjects which I did not discuss due to the nature and purpose of this e-mail. While I believe the issues of the history surrounding the State of Israel and the emerging anti-Semitic dialogue must be discussed in the future, the purpose of this e-mail is to ask for your most professional assistance in addressing the issue of anti-Semitic rhetoric on Texas A&M campus. I do not believe this rhetoric should be tolerated and I am shocked that such anti-Semitic rhetoric would be sponsored by Texas A&M University officials. While I fully support academia being the market place of ideas, the principles of hate and purposeful manipulation of history have no legitimate place in an intellectual dialogue as they threaten the very fabric on which the market place is built.

In order to address this issue, I have been privileged to work with the Texas Aggie Conservatives and the College Republicans who have agreed to help being Dr. David Horowitz to speak on A&M campus. He is tentatively scheduled to speak on 16 April 2012. The charge to have him speak is $7,000. Texas Aggie Conservatives are currently in the process of working to establish a secure account for the purpose of bringing in Dr. Horowitz to speak. As soon as I find the number to which any donations can be wired, I will forward this information on to you. If you would like to help us achieve our goal, we would be most grateful. In order to receive the account information, please e-mail me at johnson2380@gmail.com. For any other ways you would like to help, please feel free to e-mail me as well. Please feel free to forward to all those who would be interested. This will require a team effort!!! I look forward to working with all of you!”

Obama Slaps Catholics in the Face

It doesn’t matter how much damage control the Obama Administration does to undo what they did last week, nothing will change the fact they forcefully imposed their will on the Catholic Church and others, by mandating the church violate its core principles by providing birth control pills and contraceptives to all employees of religious based hospitals across the country.

It’s another phase of Obama Care, the “health care” program he promised everyone when he ran for President. Well, what do you think of it now? If you’re one of the many Hispanics who voted for Barak Obama, how does it feel knowing you put a man in office who is forcing many churches to throw away everything they know?

It may have sounded good in theory, and what could be wrong with everyone getting “free” health care?  Obama said we would no longer have people unable to get the care they need if Obama Care passed.  And it did pass…despite the efforts of the Republican Party to block it.

It’s the oldest trick in the book, called “bait and switch.” The first step is to bait the “hook” and convince the people this medical care takeover is really something they want.   They make it seem irresistible, showing pictures of the elderly and children getting the care they deserve.  All for free.  But is it free?  Nothing’s free in life… somewhere, there’s a “catch.”

And this is the “switch.”  Instead of getting what you thought you’d be getting, you get something different.  Finally, you get a chance to understand exactly what it means to be “mandated” to do something.  You get to see what it means to not have a choice…like the people in Socialist countries.

To the millions of Hispanics who voted for Obama because you thought he would fix immigration, he hasn’t. To the millions of Hispanics who voted for Obama because you thought he would create jobs…he hasn’t done that either.

And now, this? Who does he think he is? What makes him think he knows what’s best for you?

You may not be one of those who thinks the President is trying to destroy this nation from within, but ask yourself, what is the one thing that must be done in order to destroy America? Great leaders of foreign nations have always known that our nation’s greatest asset is the faith its people have in God. The same God that guided the hands of our forefathers still watches over us today.

Because of our faith, we are feared as a people. Because we rally when the Liberals attack Christmas, and we pull together in tragic times, our enemies cannot break us. But, if they can take us apart from within, they can do it while we attend our kid’s soccer games and go to work each day…oblivious to the danger at hand.

Our enemies know they must destroy our faith and will to fight. They must take away our faith in God and replace it with faith in the government. That’s where we’re all headed. People didn’t believe Obama Care would actually take place, but parts of it are already unfolding.

Rationing, End of Life counseling and now mandating that our churches abide by the government’s rules for providing contraception to its employees? It’s like a slap in the face to the Catholic Church. It is like kicking the Pope and pushing Cardinals around. Why? Because Obama doesn’t respect the church. He doesn’t understand people of faith. He doesn’t even place his hand over his heart when he says the Pledge of Allegiance.

If you voted for Barak Obama, it’s OK…you can’t change the past. But you can have an effect on the future. When November 2012 comes around, you can send him a message. Tell him that he can take his mandate and tear it up. We don’t need him telling us what to do.

In the past, the Catholic Church has always been neutral in the political arena, but today, it’s under attack. Recently, I read a letter from the Bishop of the Austin Diocese. It was a letter of distress, calling on all Catholics to pray for the Lord’s intervention and urged people to get involved politically to end this nightmare. Will you answer the call and ensure the Obama Administration’s agenda is stopped? Or will you just let someone else deal with it?

The “gig’s” up. Obama’s gotta go!

Letter from Catholic Bishop – Austin Diocese

Ralph Patterson, Candidate for McLennan County Republican Chairman

There’s a lot of pride involved in this race.  The Incumbent, Joe B. Hinton, feels he deserves to stay, that he has done his job by increasing the number of Republican officials in the county, and for anyone to challenge him is a slap in the face.

But to those on the outside, the Party has fallen short in many critical areas and has failed to lead in crucial times.  From the lack of support in the Brian Birdwell race (local Party actually supported Kip Averitt, who was not running for re-election), to the failure to reach out and fill nearly half of the precincts in the county, there is a strong resentment building.  People are getting frustrated.   They want to help, but when they show up at Party headquarters, they’re told, “everything is under control,” and they do not need any extra help at this time.

Enter Ralph Patterson, a software development entrepreneur, business owner and solid Republican. He thinks there’s a better way to run the Party, and he’s dedicating his time and energy to making the McLennan County Republican Party more effective and efficient.

This video was filmed at the McLennan County Republican Women’s Club meeting, where the County Chairman, Joe B. Hinton, was invited and again failed to attend.  It would have been nice to understand what the Chairman had in mind as a game plan, but we can only assume he isn’t interested enough in the issues, or he doesn’t care what we think of him.  Either way, his non-appearance boosted the energy and apparent support for the challenger Ralph Patterson.

We hope you enjoy and share this video with all Republicans in McLennan County.
