Navarro County Republican Outreach Efforts in Full Swing

It was a cold, rainy day in Corsicana, TX.  Republican Candidates from Navarro County gathered at the I.O.O.F. Event Center to meet local voters and speak to the crowd about their candidacy.  The event, sponsored by the newly formed Hispanic Republican Club of Navarro County, featured a prayer for guidance from Raul Jimenez, an incredible Hispanic Outreach recap from Chairman, Frank Steed and presentation from Duke Machado, Director- GOPisForMe.  Fourteen candidates then took the stage, one at a time, and gave their best three-minute “pitch” for why they deserve the vote of the people in Navarro County.  From  Sheriff’s Candidates to County Commissioners, we heard many great ideas and met several wonderful patriots.  The videos below include one of Chairman, Frank Steed and one of Duke Machado.  Steed gives a detailed recap of the process required and effort it took for the Hispanic movement to take hold.

Machado spoke about the Hispanic Republican movement and had an incredible opportunity to connect with the many candidates in attendance.  The message is growing in Navarro County, thanks to the leadership of passionate Republicans like Ralph Gonzalez, Raul and Monica Jimenez, Johnny Gonzales and their growing team in Navarro.  We will post Candidate’s speeches soon.

Aggies for Palestine, Anti-Semitic rhetoric on Texas A&M Campus?

This letter came to me today from a fellow GOPisForMe member and student at Texas A&M University.  It spells out the intentions and agenda of the group, Aggies for Palestine, and provides documented evidence of their anti-Semitic rhetoric.  Please help by passing this information along to anyone who can help end this sort of tactic on our State supported college campuses.

“Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hope this e-mail finds all of you doing well. I am writing to you today to discuss activities on Texas A&M campus both which are disturbing and alarming. Moreover, I am writing to ask for your help in the most professional manner possible. The activity to which I am specifically referring to is the formation of the Aggies for Palestine on Campus. When I first heard about this group over the 2011-2012 Christmas break, I was initially curious as I believed this group would merely advocate a peaceful and responsible two state solution to the conflicts surrounding the State of Israel. However, the more research I conducted concerning this organization, the more disturbed I became. Attached in the documents you will find evidence of the disturbing nature of the recently formed student group, Aggies for Palestine.

In the attachment Constitution, you will find the group’s stated purpose, vision, and rules of procedure. You will notice I have highlighted the vision of this group as this is the area I would like to pay particular attention to. The vision is contained in both the attachment Constitution as well as the attachment Purpose. The multi-colored accusations against Israel are the issues specifically to which I would like to bring to your attention. Most alarming are the accusations that Israel is an apartheid state, the notation that Palestinians are refugees, and the advocating for a right of return.

As you may well know, the accusation that Israel is an apartheid state comes from the wall which is currently being built along the long-established borders between the West Bank and the State of Israel. The purpose of this wall is to protect the State of Israel and to prevent future suicide bombings in civilian areas. Such proof of this issue is that since the first contiguous segment was constructed in 2006, terrorist attacks which numbered at 73, killing a total of 293 and injuring over 1,900 others has been reduced to 12 attacks, killing only 64 and wounding 445. (Information obtained from The Anti-Terrorist Fence by Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

The next item which lambasts the state of Israel is the notion that Palestinians are refugees. This accusation arises from the belief that upon the declaration of Israel as a sovereign nation on 14 May 1948, the State of Israel unreasonably and forcibly drove the non-Jewish inhabitants out of the newly formed State. I assure you nothing could be further from the truth. We know, as reflected in the official Israeli position the:

…the Arabs in Palestine were asked to stay and live as citizens in the Jewish state. Instead, they chose to leave, either because they were unwilling to live with the Jews, or because they expected an Arab military victory which would annihilate the Zionists. They thought they could leave temporarily and return at their leisure. Later, an additional claim was put forth, namely that the Palestinians were ordered to leave [by their imams], with radio broadcasts instructing them to quit their homes.

Furthermore, any claim which argues that Palestinian villages were forced to excavate by Israeli soldiers is either disingenuous or dishonest in its entirety. For starters, Israeli soldiers did forcibly remove people from Palestinian villages. But these evacuation orders were given in May 1948, weeks after the initial hostilities between Arab nations and Israel had begun. Secondly, as discovered by Benny Morris, in The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited, the Arab High Committee on March 8, 1948 was ordered by the Arab National Committee to “forcibly evacuate women, children, and the elderly to a faraway area from the dangers. Any opposition to this order is an obstacle to the holy war and will hamper the operations of the fighters in these districts”. This unwillingness to live under Jewish authority was noted in its contribution to the 1948 Palestinian exodus by George Crews McGhee in On the frontline in the Cold War: an ambassador reports (1997) as well as known historian Joseph Schechtman and Professor at King’s College London, Efraim Karsh.

The last item from the Constitutuion and Purpose which raises immediate concern is the advocating for the right of return. The right of return is the internationally recognized right of people to return to their country of origin. While on the onset, this idea has many merits, in the application to the State of Israel, the results are catastrophic. If the State of Israel were forced to grant the demands contained in the Palestinian right of return, which includes the right to return to an exact property location, it would, in so doing, forcibly evict Jews from their homes so that other people can then inhabit them.

Having finished discussing the immediate issues contained in the Constitution, I would also ask that you regard the document Facebook Photos. In this document you will find several photos taken from the Aggies for Palestine’s Facebook page. The two photos I would like to point your attention to are the two center photos. You will notice in both of these photos the Keffiyeh is present. As has been documented by Caroline Glick from the Jerusalem Post, Rhonda Koenig from the Independent in Britain, Kim Kibum from the New York Times, and authors Frank B. Tipton and Cas Muddle, this garment is a symbol of solidarity with Palestine. In particular, it is a symbol of solidarity with the Fatah, a Palestinian political party who calls for the full liberation of Palestine and all Palestinian lands with Jerusalem as its capital. Furthermore, in 2007, Fatah, as the majority party in the Palestinian National Authority, agreed to work in coordination with Hamas who won elections in the Gaza Strip in 2005. Clarification on the meaning of “all Palestinian lands” can be found on the Keffiyeh (in the center-right photo, look at the bottom left. Specifically the end of the Keffiyeh.) Further clarification can be found in the top center photo as well as the bottom center photo, both which have the entire state of Israel in the colors of red, green, and black (the colors associated with Palestinian nationalism).

There are many issues and subjects which I did not discuss due to the nature and purpose of this e-mail. While I believe the issues of the history surrounding the State of Israel and the emerging anti-Semitic dialogue must be discussed in the future, the purpose of this e-mail is to ask for your most professional assistance in addressing the issue of anti-Semitic rhetoric on Texas A&M campus. I do not believe this rhetoric should be tolerated and I am shocked that such anti-Semitic rhetoric would be sponsored by Texas A&M University officials. While I fully support academia being the market place of ideas, the principles of hate and purposeful manipulation of history have no legitimate place in an intellectual dialogue as they threaten the very fabric on which the market place is built.

In order to address this issue, I have been privileged to work with the Texas Aggie Conservatives and the College Republicans who have agreed to help being Dr. David Horowitz to speak on A&M campus. He is tentatively scheduled to speak on 16 April 2012. The charge to have him speak is $7,000. Texas Aggie Conservatives are currently in the process of working to establish a secure account for the purpose of bringing in Dr. Horowitz to speak. As soon as I find the number to which any donations can be wired, I will forward this information on to you. If you would like to help us achieve our goal, we would be most grateful. In order to receive the account information, please e-mail me at johnson2380@gmail.com. For any other ways you would like to help, please feel free to e-mail me as well. Please feel free to forward to all those who would be interested. This will require a team effort!!! I look forward to working with all of you!”

Meeting in Dallas!

The perception minorities have of the Republican Party is something we must overcome if we are to ever connect with the people.  For decades, Democrats have positioned us as the rich White guys who don’t care about the average person.  But we’re not all White…and we’re not all rich.  They think we’re money hungry lawyers, bankers and professionals who don’t know what it’s like to struggle.  Wrong again.  They’ve been told that to vote for a Republican is to vote against your people.

Tonight I’ll be speaking with the Dallas County Republican Party Outreach Committee, a meeting arranged shortly after a one-on-one visit with Dallas GOP Chairman, Wade Emmert.  We met at a Starbucks in Cedar Hill and visited for a few hours about the future of the Dallas County Republican Party.

I interviewed him, then he interviewed me, both learning each other’s motives and ideas for growing the Party.  In the end, we both concluded that collaboration and unification could have a tremendous impact not only in the community, but the Party would also benefit from the tangible difference it made through outreach efforts.

For decades, Democrats have been on the front lines, “helping” the underprivileged find their way to all the government hand-outs they can muster.  It’s led the community into a trap.  Now, 30 years later, we see generations of welfare families stacked on each other, unable to escape. I look forward to meeting the members of the Outreach Committee, who have chosen to be in the trenches.  We will talk about our education initiative, Stepping Stones, and how we can impact the local community through volunteer efforts of dedicated Dallas County Republicans who see the future and choose to play a role in its development.  They choose to give their free time to help others, and will be on the front lines in the battle to keep Texas Red!

What if?

Depending on your background and what you have achieved to date, the future can mean many things.  To the struggling family, unable to keep up, the future is a nightmare.  And to those with means, who have achieved financial success, the future is filled with opportunities.

It doesn’t matter which category you’re in, how we handle the next eight years will define our country for the next one hundred years.

A few years ago, many of us knew nothing of Hispanic population trends and how we Hispanics will become the Majority in Texas by 2020.  But today, our Presidential debates begin with questions on immigration and border security, two issues at the core of the Hispanic community.  At a time when we (Republicans) are just beginning to realize the importance of harnessing the potential of the Hispanic community, the Democrat Party is hiring PAID staff to open “Promesa” offices on college campuses across the state of Texas.

Promesa…Promise in English.  What promises are they making?  Who knows, but while our Party sits and waits, leaving it to grassroots organizations to figure things out themselves, opportunity is slipping away.  How will we be able to compete?  Our message?  If it was just about the message, Hispanics would have already become Republicans, but it’s not.

Democrats have been working in Hispanic communities for decades, helping the underprivileged survive by connecting them to the proper agency to assist them.  They are in the churches, at the soccer games and in the Hispanic Chambers.  They work closely with LULAC, who has always been perceived as loyal to the Democrat Party.  Of course, now, they dominate the Hispanic communities and the people are being conditioned to “take.”  “You deserve that money,” they say.  I’ve heard others say, “Well, if the Government is going to give the money away, then it’s not wrong.”  Dependency is more powerful than fear.  Eventually, people vote to keep their benefits, and the Candidate that tells them what they want to hear, gets elected.

I was talking with a fellow Republican yesterday about what it would take to get the Hispanic Community to recognize they held the same values as our Party.  I replied, “Before you start thinking of ways to bring Hispanics to the Party, you have to make sure it’s safe for them to jump.  Why would we want to send Hispanics to our local Republican Party office, when we know from personal experience how they will be received?  Until we have a Party that stands at the door with open arms, Hispanics will not leave the Democrat Party.”

Loyalty is a powerful characteristic, and Hispanics take pride in loyalty.

Personally, I know there are many Republican Leaders who understand what’s at stake.  I know there are good people in the Party who want to see the Party take on a new approach.  We need a grand vision, a game plan that utilizes the willingness and ability of millions of Hispanics across the country working on common issues, united.

What if the Republican Party had an eight year plan…the time it will take for Hispanics to become the Majority in Texas.  We could organize our members, use Party tools like Voter vault, contact Hispanic Republicans and take the Party to the community.  What if we helped students graduate and find their way to college or technical school.  We could help them get those high-paying jobs that we say are coming. They will become our newest contributors to society, buying homes, cars, and raising children to be patriots.

It’s prosperity.  Everyone wants it, but not everyone knows how to get it.  If our Party focused on proactive efforts to make a long-term real impact, the people would see action over rhetoric, which would diminish the negative image Democrats have been projecting for years. It’s a two-way street.  Yes, Hispanics must be willing to become involved, but the “Establishment” must be willing to embrace them when they come.

Become a Republican Precinct Chairman in McLennan County!

This is a post based on an email received from Janet Jackson, our State Republican Executive Committeewoman for Senate District 22.  She is stressing the importance of having an open process to allow local citizens to join the Party through activism.
It came to my attention today at the MCRWC meeting when two respected members of the Club told me that either they or their spouse had been told by  McLennan County Republican Party personnel that they could not file for a Precinct Chairman’s position because it was either already held or they were not a member of the Republican Club.
For clarification sake, I have attached:
  1.  RPT Precinct manual which I would refer interested parties to pages 8-10 for duties and qualifications. (For Copy of Manual, please contact me : janetsrec@gmail.com)
  2. The Filing form for Precinct Chairman (to be filled in as below)APPLICATION FOR (Precinct)  CHAIR ON THE (Republican) PARTY GENERAL PRIMARY BALLOT
  3. An oath of Affiliation form for those who did not vote in the last Republican Primary
The application form must be filed with the County Chairman (Joe Bob Hinton) or County Party Secretary.
The filing deadline as of today is February 1. This will probably change since the Primary may be pushed back but I would push for the 1st.
I would urge each of you to consider letting your membership know that it is the right of anyone who is eligible to file for this position. They do not need the approval of anyone nor do they have to pass an interview.
The tenor of the MCRWC meeting today was charged with assertive planning and expectations of high energy volunteer participation. Does it not make sense to expect this from the County Party. To do so, there must be a vibrant Board consisting of Precinct Chairmen who are “not holding a place” but engaging their Precincts in the political process.
God Bless each of you for your tireless work.

GOPisForMe Spotlight: Republican County Chairman, Frank Steed

The first time you meet Frank Steed, Navarro County Republican Party Chairman, you know you’ve just met someone who is serious about his business…whatever that may be.

He is an accomplished businessman, and owner of the Steed Consultancy, with corporate and private experience. He probably has more experience developing and rolling out franchise development programs both domestically and internationally than anyone else in the casual dining segment of the foodservice industry.

His demeanor is respectful and calm, and he looks like he’s always thinking of a way to solve problems, which leads us to this blog.

In November, at Hill College (Hillsboro), GOPisForMe held and open discussion on issues relating to Hispanics. We invited Hispanic Republican leaders from across the state, and we talked about immigration, border security, education, the 14th Amendment and everything in between. We used immediate response tools to input answers with remote devices…allowing the system to immediately display the results of our answers on a large screen.

The dialogue was created from our input to questions posed to the group. We talked about certain positions we held and debated which solutions seemed more acceptable than others.

Frank Steed was in that discussion. He was there…in the room with all of us. Why was he there? Why has he been a key factor in the development of the Hispanic Republican movement in Navarro County?

He does what he does because he understands what’s at stake. He realizes the importance of “reaching out” to the Hispanic community. He believes Hispanics are Conservative by nature, and he’s passionate about doing something to develop the Republican Party through Hispanic inclusion.

Frank Steed has been actively supporting the Hispanic Republican Club of Navarro County, which we helped nurture and develop, along with local Hispanic activists from Navarro County. He’s essentially given the newly formed Hispanic Club the keys to the Republican Headquarters. They can use the facility whenever they need to.

What would that be like? I wouldn’t know…I live in McLennan County, where there is no County Chairman. Well, there is…but he may as well not exist when it comes to developing the local Party through Hispanic inclusion efforts.

The Citizens of Navarro County are fortunate to have a Chairman who is eager to help and willing to make things happen.

Recently, Frank arranged a meeting for the Hispanic Club to meet with their elected officials to discuss openly their concerns on issues. This will take place January 5th, 2012, in Corsicana,TX. We will meet with U.S. Congressman Joe Barton (CD-6), and Texas House Representative, Byron Cook.

On January 28, 2012, we will join the Navarro County Hispanic Republican Club and host the Navarro County Hispanic Republican Summit. We will have another discussion with feedback devices and use the feedback and questions to develop questions for the Forum for Candidates and Incumbents to discuss openly on stage, with constituents in attendance.

There will be Navarro County Republican candidates for every position on the ballot. A first for the RPNC.

Because of Frank’s dedication to the Hispanic Republican Movement, Hispanics in Navarro County have a true opportunity to make an impact in their community. He is building the Party, gaining strength and building the “ground forces” to combat Liberalism. What better reason do we need to spotlight his work?

Frank Steed is setting a great example of what can happen when the County Chairman gets involved and wants to make a difference. Thank you for all you do!

VIDEO: Texas Hispanic Republican Summit “Recap”

This video shows just how critical it is for us to figure out how to deal with the Hispanic population growth coming to Texas. As you may already know, Hispanics will be the majority by 2020, and how we resolve our issues will tell what the future will hold.

No matter what Party you belong to, no one will be able to escape the reality ahead. What will Texas’ future look like? Will we be a state gone wild? Or will we be on the leading edge of education and technology? It’s up to us to decide, and events like this pull us together long enough to recognize the devastating consequence of failing to address immigration, border security, education and assimilation.

Hispanic Message Resonates in Anderson County

I really enjoy meeting people for the first time.

In Palestine, TX, I was welcomed as the Anderson County Republican Club’s Guest Speaker.

It was an arrangement initiated by Bobby Vickery, a supporter of the movement, and someone who understands what’s coming down the pipe.

I knew the Anderson County Republicans were interested in hearing about our efforts, but didn’t realize how many people were ready to make a difference.

I began by introducing myself and letting everyone know about my background and how we developed. I let them know about the trends in Hispanic population, education, immigration, and shared statistics with them about their own county.

We talked about gang violence and the Cartels. We talked about issues relating to the Hispanic community almost to the point of boiling over. The people in attendance asked all kinds of questions and we exchanged in an incredible dialogue. They felt the passion of the movement and by the end of the night, several had come around to talk more about how they could get something started in Anderson County.

I met a young Hispanic man who was invited to come and listen to the message of Hispanics within the Republican Party. He felt our message was on point, and true to what he knew of the community. He could tell we were serious about these issues and felt comfortable talking about his interest in participating in the development of the Party.

Another couple had been referred to me about an immigration issue. I suggested the Trusted Attorney Network to them and they were sure to let me know they were making huge strides to getting their son-in-law through the process of documentation and citizenship.

The County Chairman, Mike Mart, was incredibly supportive and was genuinely concerned about the future of Texas. We talked about Voter Vault and how their small group could begin making a tangible difference in their county. I asked if the Chairman knew how to pull a filtered list of Hispanic Republicans on Voter Vault. “Yeah, I just type in the last name and pull them up that way,” he replied.

“Oh no…I’ve got to show you a trick to pull all the Hispanic Surnames in your county.” He opened his I-Pad and logged into Voter Vault. After a few “Top Secret” moves, he pulled the list.

77 Hispanic Republicans pulled up.

A few others gathered around to see the list and they started recalling names of people and looked them up. To their surprise, they were listed…with phone numbers and all.

“There’s your beginning,” I said. “That’s where you start.”

Palestine is in East Texas…and today I’m happy to report that we will be back to build the Stepping Stones initiative and penetrate the Hispanic community. A special thanks to the many wonderful people I met last night. From the Sheriff to the Feed Store owner, there is lots of support for this initiative, and I appreciate them for making me feel so welcome.

Edwin Flores (Dallas ISD Trustee) Speaking at Texas Hispanic Republican Summit

We are proud to present Edwin Flores as Guest Speaker for the Texas Hispanic Republican Summit, November 19, 2011 at Hill College.

Mr. Flores is committed to addressing Education issues within the Hispanic Community, and as a Trustee, is in the position to clearly see what’s coming for the Future of Texas.  Statistics show an incredible surge in enrollment for Hispanics, and Flores will be discussing the dilemma we face if we do not immediately face this crisis.

We ask you to join us and share your voice in this extremely important conversation.

What others are saying about Edwin and Dallas ISD:

“Edwin Flores is a Dallas ISD Trustee who puts the education of our children first. Edwin knows that graduating kids and making sure they’re ready for college or the workplace must be the top priority for the Board of Trustees. This requires fundamental change and Edwin is a strong voice for reform and change. I encourage the voters in District 1 to re-elect Edwin Flores”.   – The Honorable Tom Leppert, Mayor of Dallas

“Dallas ISD has improved more than any other urban district in Texas and more than all but one urban district in the country in narrowing the achievement gap.” Brown Center on Education Policy, Brookings Institution, February 2009

“The Dallas Independent School District and the students it serves have made substantial strides over the last several years. Its academic gains have been some of the most impressive in the country and the district is now viewed as one of the nation’s fastest improving urban school systems.” Council of Great City Schools, June 2009
