Susan Combs Announces Support of Tom Gray
for Waco Court of Appeals in May 29th Republican Primary
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs added her name to the list of those endorsing the reelection campaign of 10th Court of Appeals Chief Justice Tom Gray. She issued the following statement: “Tom Gray has exhibited the ability to efficiently administer this important court and his opinions are rarely overturned by the higher courts. I urge the voters in Central Texas to return him to office”.
Chief Justice Gray said, in thanking Comptroller Combs: “I am grateful to Susan Combs for her endorsement. For someone with her record of accomplishment and service to support our campaign means a great deal.”
Susan Combs has served as Texas Comptroller since her election in 2006. Before that she was the first woman ever elected Texas Agriculture Commissioner, a post she held for 8 years. She served in the Texas Legislature for two terms. She also served as an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas County and as Texas Director for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. She is a native of San Antonio and runs a cow-calf operation in Brewster County. She received her undergraduate degree from Vasser College and earned a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Combs serves on the boards of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in Fort Worth and the Texas Wildlife Association among others.
Chief Justice Tom Gray was the first Republican ever elected to an open seat on the 10th Court of Appeals and has served for over 13 years on that court. He was appointed Chief Justice of the court by Governor Rick Perry. He is a graduate of Sam Houston State University and received his MBA in accounting from Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1985 with honors from Baylor University School of Law. After practicing law for more than a decade he began his judicial career. Three times the voters have elected him to a seat on this court.
The 10th Court of Appeals sits in Waco and hears both civil and criminal appeals from trial courts in 18 central Texas counties. The district is comprised of Bosque, Brazos, Burleson, Coryell, Ellis, Falls, Freestone, Hamilton, Hill, Johnson, Leon, Limestone, Madison, McLennan, Navarro, Robertson, Somervell and Walker Counties.
